Our Strong Community

We are an independent school with a vibrant and inclusive community where academic excellence meets dynamic engagement. The familiar echo of Happy Friday, Diegueno Students! creates a ripple effect of happiness in our community. Our Friday Morning Messages originally began as a way to make fun announcements to parents and students, but, like everything we do at Diegueno, it has since grown in scope and quality. At Remotely Diegueno, instead of interviewing/casting students for the video, families submit videos and photos from their at-home experience. We lovingly compile the submissions to create a unified, all-inclusive, birds-eye view into our own individual experiences. Through a shared video compilation, we can help strengthen the bonds in our community, even from a distance. Thank you in advance for your family’s uploads to our Diegueno Dropbox

Specialty Courses

Our specialty offerings are designed to allow creative, flexible, hands-on learning opportunities that can be viewed any time, any day. Currently, we have video lessons for music, art, fitness, woodworking, science, foreign language, cooking, and crafts. Students of all grade levels are welcome to partake in all lessons from each discipline. Teachers will upload more videos so that new lessons will be online each week.

Academic Excellence

Team teaching and a departmentalized approach allow for targeted small groups in Math and Language Arts that meet individual students’ needs to further accelerate their learning curve. Diegueño  Country School offers a balanced academic program that promotes intellectual curiosity, advanced critical thinking skills, and self awareness. Students are taught to organize and synthesize their ideas through independent and cooperative learning in all areas of study.

Proactive Engagement

Opportunities for philanthropy, kindness, and mindfulness help build empathic awareness and a healthy sense of responsibility for fellow Diegueno community members and our global community.

To maintain our vibrant and cooperative community, students are encouraged to interact with other grade levels and teachers from all grades during shared breaks and outdoor play times. The students feel like members of an extended family where inclusion is the expectation each day.

Confident Communication

Beginning in Kindergarten, students of all grade levels participate in public speaking opportunities during in-class presentations and whole school productions. Poised, powerful, and passionate, students are given specific feedback and individualized coaching that optimizes his/her performance, which maximizes student confidence.

A Word

From Our head of school

Diegueno Family Members,

Even from a distance, our vibrant and inclusive community continues to learn, grow, and thrive. Our educational philosophy and vision for our students remain constant as we continue to work in small groups to differentiate the curriculum and continue the well established academic momentum. Through daily Zoom sessions, each class maintains positive peer interaction and through Friday Morning Messages, our little Diegueno village shares unique experiences that feel like a digital group-hug!

While we do not yet have a return-to-school date, we will continue to enhance our Remotely Diegueno experience by adding specialty courses, new enrichment suggestions, and more project-based learning opportunities. We will also reinstate our Great Kindness Challenge for Spring 2020 since there are many ways our children can be involved in philanthropic efforts. I plan to host a virtual parent “happy hour” for parents to reconnect. As well, I will be sending a survey next week to gain a clearer picture about parent/student needs and how we can best serve our school community.

We look forward to our future reunion with all of you, our beloved Diegueno family members. In the meantime, use this moment in history to learn new skills, stay active, and gain strength through our collective challenges. Together, we are stronger.

Sending love and hope,

     – Janet Cole
